Did You Know? We have an Australian TV network which is currently taking action that if successful, could mean that it will be illegal to use a TV guide to program your VCR or PVR?
Despite the Australian public owning and licensing the air waves to Free To Air (FTA) TV stations, one network is using the law in a way no one had ever considered possible by attempting to gain complete control of program guide information. This means (they are saying) that it is illegal to use their guide information to record Free to Air (FTA) television shows; and yes, the current copyright conditions are easily interpreted to include using the newspaper for the purpose of programming your VCR!
One of the reasons they are trying to do this is to exert control over the sales channels for the new type of Digital TV personal video recorders (PVRs) now available in Australia. After all, what better way to force you to buy one brand of equipment than by ensuring that their unit is one of a only few models which can provide a ‘legitimate’ and effective program guide!
Our goal is to ensure that the Australian public enjoys the full scope of the EPG together with the freedom to choose from a wider range of PVRs without fear of being accused of being involved in illegal activity, and that such equipment is enabled to provide a free, reliable and effective EPG - just like the rest of the world has been enjoying for several years.

| FOXTEL, OptusTV and AUSTAR listings to be discontinued! - Wednesday, July 23, 2008 |
|
Sadly, our Windows Media Center guide listings for FOXTEL, OptusTV and AUSTAR will be discontinued as of the 1st August 2008. To cut a long story short, these listings consume over 50% of our network and resources but unfortunately we don't have the budget or support from the community to continue supporting this service anymore.
The good news is we do have a set of client tools which will allow you to download and configure the guide data directly into your Media Center installation. Read More >>. | |
